WHAT IS GOWAN HYBRID COTTON?

Gowan’s hybrid cotton is the result of an interspecific cross between Upland (Gossypium hirsutum) and Pima (G. barbadense) parents.

The result is a high yielding Upland type variety that produces

Extra Long Staple fiber!

GOWAN 1432

2024 is our 6th year of proven yield and quality results. Gowan Hybrid Pima 1432 is the only proven Hybrid Pima cotton with the same maturity as most upland varieties planted on the South Plains! 1432 is the highest yielding Pima across the Pima belt in California, Arizona, and New Mexico and now on the South Plains. 1432 has significantly out preformed traditional long season Pima’s on the South Plains and Southwest US in side-by-side field trials. 1432 is a non-GMO variety available with or without seed treatment.

Gowan 1432 exhibits a vigorous growth habit that responds well to grower inputs and management systems. It responds well to plant growth regulators.

Advantages of Gowan Hybrids

• Earlier maturity than traditional Pimas

• Adaptable to wide range of season and management systems resulting in high stability

• High degree of seedling and plant vigor

• Improved water use efficiency

• Tolerance to alkaline and saline soils

• High yield in poor to marginal conditions

• ELS fiber

• Non-GMO allowing more global access in restricted areas and ability to be certified in Organic and Regenerative Management Systems

Stress Tolerance in Adverse Conditions

Gowan 1432 demonstrates excellent tolerance to stressed field conditions. The vigorous nature of the interspecific hybrid, allows it to develop a deeper root system and a larger plant structure even in adverse situations. The aggressive growth habit allows the plant to yield well even in water and fertilizer limited environments. The larger structure also makes it more suitable for heavy, alkaline, or even saline soils. The shorter maturity also makes it an excellent choice for Pima type cotton produced in shorter, heat unit limited geographies.

Interspecific Hybrids from Gowan

Give growers a unique option to produce ELS Cotton in geographies not typically suited to traditional Pima production. The earlier maturity and stress tolerance similar to Upland types makes it an excellent choice for growers seeking a high value fiber option in new areas without sacrificing yield.

Our hybrids are Non-GMO making them an excellent choice for growers adopting regenerative or organic production systems.
